The Northeast Soapbox Association is a free membership organization. Its goal is to promote the sport of freestyle / DIY gravity-powered soapbox races and derbies in the northeastern states of the US, including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and maybe even Maryland and Virginia, if they ask nice.
The term "freestyle" here means the races promoted through this association must allow open-format racing vehicles in a Do-It-Yourself format. Race carts must be built from scratch, not from kits, and be solely powered by gravity. The Northeast Soapbox Association is not affiliated with the AASBA.

Soapbox races are a creative, fun family-friendly event, using good ol' American ingenuity and craftsmanship. Races that are members of the Northeast Soapbox Association follow the same rules and are typically fundraisers for their town's recreation department.
